Net Energy Metering (NEM)

If your solar energy system produces excess solar energy, you can sell that solar energy back to SDG&E at a retail rate. Then at the times that you do not have extra solar energy, you can use that credit towards purchase of utility electricity. SDG&E’s net metering now uses a Time-of-use (TOU) rate system that can offer more for every kWh you send during “peak” energy hours, if you generate extra electricity during that time.
